Sign housings are designed in accordance with AASHTO Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires, and Traffic Signals; for wind speeds of up to 140mph. AASHTO group load combinations include total sign weight dead load, ice, and wind loads; and the design meets the fatigue requirements for truck-induced gusts. Snow loading is included in design loads for applicable geographical regions.
